Congregational Meetings

In the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina, each parish is required to hold an annual meeting of its qualified voting members. This meeting has been held at various times over the years. It usually has been during Advent or Epiphany. Qualified voters are enrolled, confirmed adult communicants in good standing. The annual meeting serves to elect vestry members, receive reports on the parish’s activities and finances, and conduct other necessary business. All decisions, including elections, are determined by a majority of the qualified members present and voting.Parishes may adopt bylaws to govern the conduct of meetings and elections, including provisions for absentee or electronic voting, subject to approval by the Ecclesiastical Authority with the advice and consent of the Standing Committee. These bylaws must be filed within 30 days of adoption. This framework ensures transparency, accountability, and active participation in parish governance.
